Those annoying, pesky and dangerous mosquitoes are back. The Culex taraslis mosquito has been found in Saskatchewan, however mosquitoes actually carrying the West Nile virus have not been found yet. Really, it`s just a matter of time. Last year was the worst year for human cases of West Nile virus in Saskatchewan.
It seems hard to go outside anymore without slathering up with some sort of chemical concoction. The experts tell us not to go outside during the heat of the day, but if you dare, put on sunscreen. For the last few years we have been warned not to go outside at dawn and dusk because of the dreaded mosquito; but if you must go outside, put on some repellent with Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) to prevent mosquitoes from finding you. Is there any time besides 3:14am to 3:19am that is safe to leave the house anymore?
I hope that everyone stays safe while keeping bug bites and sun burns to a minimum. Try not to let all the media hyped dangers keep you from enjoying the short but fun Saskatchewan summer.
