Why retire if you don’t want too? A 94-year-old Indiana woman is celebrating 44 years of working at McDonald's, and she has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
Since 1973, Loraine Maurer has worked at a number of McDonald's locations in Evansville, Indiana. On Thursday, a celebration was held at her current restaurant, with dozens of people dropping by to congratulate on her many years of service with the company. Maurer was given a cake and treated like a celebrity by customers, well-wishers and co-workers.
"It was wonderful," Maurer said of her party. "The only thing is there were so many people there that I couldn't talk to them all." Maurer, who has four children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, said the relationships she has with her customers are why she's continued working at McDonald's.
She said she has contemplated retiring over the years, but she would miss the people too much. “If you don’t like your job, it’s a job, but I love it,” Maurer said. “The people, the clientele, that’s why I stuck with it.”
