The 75th annual Golden Globes were last night, and host Seth Meyers came out swinging!
Almost immediately, he addressed the sexual misconduct scandals that hit Hollywood in 2017. He mentioned "the elephant that wasn't in the room" Harvey Weinstein, and took shots at Kevin Spacey.
Throughout the night there were a few jabs at the people in the room as well. For example, when Natalie Portman presented the Best Director category, she said, “Here are the all-male nominees.”
Also, on the red carpet, ‘Will and Grace’ star Debra Messing called out E!News (while being interviewed by E!News!) for not paying their female reporters the same as their male reporters (as revealed by their former reporter, Cat Sadler).
But the person who stole the show was Oprah! She became the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. de Mille Award, and her speech was inspiring!
"...So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me Too’ again."
The whole room was on its feet! (Oprah, stop teasing us and run for president already!)
