Numerous female musicians are criticizing Grammy awards president Neil Portnow after he said that women need to “step up” if they want to achieve success in the music industry.
Portnow made the comment backstage at the Grammys on Sunday (where only 17 out of 86 awards went to women).
Singer Pink responded by saying, “Women in music don’t need to ‘step up’. Women have been stepping up...”
Cheryl Crowe said she wants the Grammys to return to male and female categories, since the industry is so dominated by men.
And singer Charli XCX had the comment of the night... she wrote, “I’m about to step up onto your face!”
(Seriously, why did he think that was going to go well for him?)
