Welcome to Saskatonians, where we feature and recognize people within the community of Saskatoon, showcasing the great things that they do, what they like and how they make Saskatoon great!
98COOL and Edible Arrangements are proud to feature the hero of the month! A senior from the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood nominated Dr. Kali Gartner and the entire staff of the West Side Community Clinic.
"I have never met a more caring and consultative physician in my 62 years. She takes the time to listen to whatever I have to say whether it is health related or not.
This clinic is in, what is likely, the porest neighbourhood in the city and it takes a special kind of caring person to work in the city and it takes a special kind of caring person to work in this area that is rife with crime, alcoholics and addicts. On more than one occasion I have witnessed people coming in and verbally abuse, threaten and generally "flip out" on the staff. They retain their composure and still try to assist them and remain helpful and polite.
To be honest, if anyone treated me in the manner I've witnessed, they would be in need of the clinics' services.
The doctors and interns at the clinic do not have to be there, they choose to be there and I, for one, am grateful to have them here.
While most of our community "Heroes" can be see or we hear on the news about Police, EMT's and Firefighters doing heroic things, these people are doing heroic things unsung, unreported and unrelenting on a daily basis.
