Welcome to Saskatonians, the newest feature from Sasknow.ca! We will be featuring and recognizing people within the community of Saskatoon, showcasing the great things that they do, what they like and how they make Saskatoon great!
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Saskatoon? Born and raised in Saskatoon, SK for all 22 years of my life. What is your favourite restaurant in Saskatoon? Subway on 8th St. They have the sweetest staff and they have a Drive Thru that I swear is faster than McDonalds! Super-efficient!
What is your favourite activity in Saskatoon? Stock Car Racing at Wyant Group Raceway! That and go-karting at Velocity Raceway... except they got torn down. I heard rumours about an indoor go-kart track though and if that were to happen you can bet any money I will be there all winter long!
If you could change one thing about Saskatoon, what would it be? That everyone knew how lucky we are to have such a beautiful racing facility here in Saskatoon. It is the best facility in Western Canada and potentially the best across the entire Nation! If anyone hasn’t been out there I invite them to at least come check it out one weekend. Here’s a link to our website: https://www.wyantgroupraceway.ca/index.cfm OH! And get the wanna be race car drivers that “race” on 8th St. off the streets and into a real racing league. (Wyant Group Raceway, SIR, Saskatchewan Drifting Association) it does not matter what league it is. I used to be one of those people and getting into stock car racing was the best thing to happen to me as I had an outlet to unleash my my racing desires while entertaining the public instead of endangering them.
What’s the best thing about living in Saskatoon? Wyant Group Raceway. As I said...the city of Saskatoon in general does not know that they host some of the best racing on the best facility in Western Canada and potentially the entire nation!
Where do you work and what do you do? I am currently a Marketing Specialist for Elite Property Management during my internship as I am a 3rd year Business Student at the Edwards School of Business at the U of S.
What other interesting jobs have you had? I have worked as a Cashier at my local Convenience Store, Buddies Pizza and Confectionary, for 4 years when I was younger for my first job. I was actually there where I was able to finally save up enough money to go purchase my first go-kart which kick started my personal racing career? From there I had a few other jobs while going to school including being a Food Clerk for Saskatoon Co-op and a professional car detailer for Sherwood Chevrolet.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why? I would like to transport straight to a big company who is looking for a grass roots race car driver that is looking to go big. Whichever company that may be I will through them my resume and tell them that this will be the best decision of their lives.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you? I got pranked with laxatives. It was a messy situation.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you. I bought a N64 and it has been my mission to repurchase all of the classic video games on that console as it was my first ever system. I am currently playing Paper Mario and am am contemplating Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and conquering the water temple with no outside assistance (near impossible).
If you could have only one meal the rest of your life what would it be? Chicken Fingers and Fries with a side of gravy from Original Joes. Hands down. Could eat that every day!
What type of music do you listen to? 92.9 The Bull obviously! But I will listen to a little Ellie Goulding Britney Spears, Shakira, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez some days. That isn’t a joke either. My taste in music is quite messed up!
Who is your hero? My Father. He sets the bar so high for my brother and I and is a prime example of what passion and dedication is. He managed to snag my mother too which is only something a hero could accomplish. He obviously has his moments but his heart and morals are in the perfect place and he is always so patient and calm under pressure. Unless he has too much coffee... then his patience runs thin and then my brother and I really start to have fun.
What is your favourite thing to spend money on? Road Trips to other race tracks by far. It’s like hockey tournaments when I was younger...but x100. Vacation...time off work...and get to race? I am in!
If you could retire tomorrow what would you do? If I could retire at age 22... I would give some money to help the track out and as well go South of the Border and race at many tracks as I could. If I had enough money I would go in NASCAR but without big Sponsors behind you, accomplishing that feat is near impossible. They don’t have a system like in hockey where you go up the stages. It looks like they do but the amount of money NASCAR drains from you is seriously a problem. Without big money behind you... you only will go as far as your wallet will take you. As a student.... I am super lucky to have the opportunity to race against some of Western Canada’s Best drivers in the Super Late Model Division. I am taking marketing to help better myself and give our sponsors more bang for their buck with advertising without team.
What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten? I am actually a pretty picky eater so anything strange is a long shot. Actually my friends always thought I was weird as I preferred plain macaroni with butter and some pepper rather than mac and cheese.
What’s the worst thing you ever did as a kid? I received a $500.00 speeding ticket when I was 16. I learned my lesson very quick and would like to thank the officers that night who let me off with only a ticket and nothing more. That is another reason why I am against kids who race on the street. It was an eye opening experience and I wish I could get all of them into an actual race car because it is A LOT more fulfilling, exciting and is safer than doing it on the street. Plus it is legal!
Who is your celebrity crush? My girlfriend. I’ll take those free brownie points thank you very much!
Your biggest pet peeve is what?
1. Know it alls/arrogance 2. Kids who vape and think it’s cool. It isn’t. 3. When people talk about their street car being a race car.
Name someone that you think deserves some recognition. All of our sponsors who have helped me get to this point in my career: Saskatoon Co-op 92.9 The Bull Cervus Collision Sharp Auto Trim OK Tire 22nd St. Subway on 8th St. Saskatoon Custom Powder Coating Shirley Service SASKNOW.ca R&D Race Cars
My parents, and brother Connor for supporting me in this crazy passion and for helping shape me into the man I am today. Plus all of the drivers and volunteers at Wyant Group Raceway who have become like family to me.
