Try to imagine downtown Idylwyld with larger and taller buildings and a wider sidewalk further away from traffic, with a raised cycle path beside it.
That's the vision for the Imagine Idylwyld project. You can give your input on it March 7th at an open house. Jay Magus, Acting Director of Transportation, says the plan is to entice business infill and improve the function of the roadway and its connectivity between 20th Street and 25th Street. That includes getting rid of the section where the road narrows down to one lane that continues southbound once you cross the tracks at 25th Street. Magus says the proposal is 2 lanes in either direction for downtown Idylwyld, with right and left turn lanes where needed. The March 7th open house begins at 4:30 at the Western Development Museum. After that, the project will be fine tuned based on the feedback. It could possibly be presented to City Council for its endorsement in June.
