In the prairies, a lot of the road construction has to be left for warmer months, so now that spring is here, the roadwork is ramping up.
The total budget for highway construction season for the province is $1.1-billion. Along with the road work, there are usually more people on the roads in the summer, so Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit is urging caution and reminding drivers to obey signs and flag persons and slow to 60 km/hr through work zones. If you are caught speeding in a work zone, you will face three times the normal fines. It's also illegal to pass vehicles with flashing lights.
