RCMP 'F' Division continues to search for the 17 year old boy who is missing after swimming in the South Saskatchewan River Sunday night.
Saskatoon RCMP say he was with friends at the time, but they haven't determined exactly what happened. The boy was reported missing around 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the Fred Heal canoe launch, about 12 kilometres south of the city. Saskatoon RCMP Commander Greg Abbott says everyone is out to help search for the boy, including Saskatoon Police and the Saskatoon Fire Department. As well they've been joined by 60 members of the Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers (SARSAV) and the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA). The boy's identity is not being released at this time, at the request of the family. Abbott says this is an unfortunate event, which serves as a reminder for those who use the river for recreation to be careful of the undertow. He adds it can suck you under at any moment.
