There are a couple of elections in the offing, after Premier Brad Wall's announcement that he is retiring from politics.
There will have to be a by-election for his seat as an MLA for Swift Current and a Saskatchewan Party election to choose its leader who will become Premier. Executive Director of the Sask Party, Patrick Bundrock, says they are now starting the work to organize a leadership convention and finalize all the campaign rules. The new leader will be chosen in a one-member, one-vote election. In the next 30 days the provincial council will meet to draft and approve details like the date of the convention and where it will be held, the membership sales deadlines, campaign expense limits and the voting system. A Chief Electoral Officer and Leadership Election Organizing Committee will also be appointed. Bundrock adds you don't have to be an MLA to vie for the leadership position. Any Saskatchewan Party member in good standing can put their name forward.
