Thanks to a trade just before the start of the second round, the Saskatoon Blades made five selections out of the first 42 in Thursday's W-H-L Bantam Draft.
The Bridge City Bunch sent right winger Mason McCarty to Red Deer for the 31st pick overall. The dealing of McCarty drops the number of potential 20-year-olds with the Bridge City Bunch right now to five. Only three can be with the team beyond October 10. As far as draft picks go, the Blades took defenceman Aiden de la Gorgendiere fifth overall and forward Kyle Crnkovic with the 10th overall choice in the first round. In the second round, Saskatoon selected forward Braden Plaschewsky from Calgary, goaltender Koen MacInnes from Vancouver and defenceman Kurtis Smythe from Surrey, B-C with the 31st, 35th and 42nd picks, respectively. The Draft got started just after 8:30 with the Prince Albert Raiders doing as expected, selecting defenceman Kaiden Guhle with the first overall pick.
