The Saskatoon Blades have two players on concussion protocol following injuries in Saturday's home-ice victory over Red Deer.
Defenceman Jake Kustra suffered a concussion and a cut on his head following a hit by former teammate Cameron Hausinger midway through the third period. Kustra was taken off the ice on a stretcher and transported to hospital in an ambulance.
A news release from the team says Kustra is ''fine and doing well." He did not suffer neck or spinal injuries and was not required to spend the night in hospital.
Even though the severity of the concussion is not as bad as initially believed, Kustra will be following protocol.
"Our main concern is his immediate and long term health, so obviously we are not prepared to make any statements on him returning to action just yet."
Forward Braylon Shmyr is also following concussion protocol following an open-ice hit by Rebels' defenceman Colton Bobyk with 30 seconds remaining. The Blades are not making any statements or estimates on when Shmyr might be able to return to the lineup.
