Ground has been broken on a long overdue replacement for the Saskatoon Hilltops clubhouse facilities.
The first shovel went into the ground adjacent to the current clubhouse facilities on Kilburn Avenue. The Hilltops have won 16 Canadian championships playing out of an undersized and dated clubhouse facility, according to director and alumni Chris Hengen-Braun the current facility is rich with history and mystique but it needs to go.
“The problem is it’s just so old and it’s falling apart. We’ve got a couple of engineers in there to see if we could just do renovations to the current clubhouse right now and they said might as well just knock it down and get it going again. I’ve been down in the basement and there’s mouse traps down there for a good reason.”
Hengen-Braun added that today is an exciting day for the club but with only 65% of the funds raised there’s still work to be done
“If anybody is out there looking to support the club a little bit more we’ve got a lot of awesome donations to date and we are just really excited to keep this thing rolling and have a second to none facility for junior football in this country.”
The new facility will be over 10,000 square feet and have ample room for the players, coaches, and support staff. To donate visit the Hilltops website at saskatoonhilltops.com
