The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are one step away from their first national title since 1983, using a big second period to dominate St. Francis Xavier in the University Cup semifinal.
After Jesse Forsberg opened the scoring for Saskatchewan in the first, 6 different Huskies scored in the second period, with a Connor Cox powerplay goal with 3 seconds left in the period capping off a dominant middle frame. From there, Logan McVeigh notched his second of the night in the third period as Saskatchewan booked a ticket to the final with an 8-0 drubbing of the X-men.
U Sports goalie of the year Jordan Cooke made 26 saves for the shutout, grabbing his second straight shutout after blanking the York Lions in the quarterfinal.
The Huskies make their first return to the final since they hosted the University Cup in 2014, but this time, they'll be visitor. They play the host University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds in a battle between the teams that occupied the top two national ranking positions all year long.
A Saskatchewan Huskies win would only be the second in program history.
