Once again our annual Coffeetalk Vacation is over and done and the gang is back home adjusting to winter. It was interesting to fly to and from Montego Bay, Jamaica this year after hearing stories about serious criminal goings-on in that area. There had been a travel advisory issued by the government of Canada regarding travel in the Parish of St James, which includes the resort destination of Montego Bay.
However, all Sunwing flights and vacation packages were operating as scheduled, all tours and excursions were operating normally, and there were no restrictions on movement. Our resort destination was in Ocho Rios in the Parish of St Anne’s, which is up the coast from Montego Bay. There was never a hint of any problem and our driver told us any problems that existed were inland from Montego Bay resorts and certainly nowhere near Ocho Rios or Negril, the other popular resort destination. The Jamaican police and military had a handle on the situation because the island simply couldn’t afford to have tourists stop coming. I believe our group had an enjoyable and relaxing Jamaica holiday and soon we will sit down with CAA Travel to see where we might travel to next January. We’ll have details on the radio when we know.
