Well, it’s a back to work Monday for many of us here in the middle of summer. Even though we’d rather be at the lake or anywhere we can relax, our brains need to be in work mode. Computers be darned, our brains are the most complicated creations on earth. Composed of trillions of separate yet inter-connecting cells, our brains allow us to live, breathe, think, dream and hope.
Right now our hearts are beating, our blood pressure and body temperature is regulated and a multitude of internal organs sustain our bodily functions. Our brain never rests but keeps working, never stopping for a moment. It’s like the office computer we don’t turn off so it can do updates and resolve problems while we sleep. Over our lifetime, our minds complete a complicated, interwoven series of beliefs, wants, needs and hopes resulting in our unique personalities that are different from anyone else. Our brain is almost unbelievable in its miraculous powers yet I think we sometimes take all this brain power for granted. Computers and the evolution of AI aside, we have at our disposal the most powerful thinking apparatus ever created. The brain can be our best friend or our worst enemy depending on how we use it. And the more we use it, the stronger it gets.
