It's my Parting Shot for the return of the Fearless Predictor...in place of Weekend Short Shots...
We'll start with the N-H-L playoffs. A month ago, just before the post-season started, I called for an Anaheim-Washington Stanley Cup final. Prior to Wednesday evening, I had a 25 per cent chance of that still being the case. But, the 25 per cent chance that ended up happening is that the Capitals are done and the Ducks are still alive after both were involved in Game 7s...which takes us to the Conference finals.
In the East, I'm picking Pittsburgh to get past Ottawa in six games. I will only jump on the "Canadian" team bandwagon if it's Winnipeg, or Toronto, even Vancouver or Calgary. Montreal...no way; Edmonton...forget it; Ottawa...not likely. The Penguins are the better team. Out West, I have to stay with Anaheim, even though Nashville appears to be a team of destiny. The Predators look good and will reward the N-H-L's playoff format, as well as give hope to every team, if they, as an eighth seed, can get to the final. But, this will be the Ducks in six games!
I realize the W-H-L is four games into their final, but it's tied 2-2. Before the playoffs started, I said it would be Seattle and Lethbridge in the final. The Thunderbirds got to the Ed Chynoweth series, but the Hurricanes couldn't subdue Regina. That brings me to Seattle against the Pats. My original pick was the T-Birds over Lethbridge in six...and, I would stay with that, but it's hard to pick against the W-H-L's best team in Regina. I felt the Pats would lose in Round 2 to Moose Jaw. But, the Warriors succumbed in Round 1 to Swift Current and the Broncos couldn't quite pull off the upset. I'll stick with Seattle in six, but I wouldn't be surprised if Regina won the W-H-L crown!
